We succeeded in finding antiglycation effect from watermelon extract showing AGEs production inhibitory activity.

When watermelon extract was fed to rats, a decrease in triglycerides and leptin a cytokine secreted by adipocytes was observed,

On adding watermelon extract (WS-A) to a reaction solution prepared by adding glucose to Human Serum Albumin (HSA) to produce AGEs, production of 3DG involved in the production of fluorescent AGEs was found to be inhibited suppressing glycation.

Even when compared to aminoguanidine that has a strong antiglycation effect, watermelon extract exhibited a relatively stronger antiglycation effect, actively suppressed the production of 3DG, a glycation reaction intermediate that is highly reactive.
